Handcrafted with Pride

Take a moment to think about the shoes you’re wearing right now. You probably haven’t given much thought to where they were before they landed on your feet. If you happen to be wearing an SAS (San Antonio Shoemakers) shoe, that one pair has had a whole host of experiences prior to leaving the factory and coming into your ownership. In fact, just one pair of our shoes can go through up to 100 different steps and assurances before they are declared SAS quality.

Today, while many shoe companies have outsourced their production to third party contract manufacturers, SAS sticks firmly to our founders' vision of proudly handcrafting the finest comfort shoes in our own factories.

SAS owns and operates two factories in Texas, our original factory in San Antonio, which was established in 1976, and a factory in Del Rio that opened its doors in 1985. We also own and operate a sister plant in Acuna, Mexico which is directly across the border from Del Rio, Texas. In Acuna, specific operations such as hand sewing and stitching take place on some of our styles. We also work hand in hand with a multi-generational family owned Italian shoe manufacturer to design and engineer our line of pumps and other dress shoes. These shoes may be made in the U.S., Italy or both locations.

In order to create SAS shoes, the ones that have come to be known as the “shoes you don’t want to take off at the end of the day,” there are 14 primary operations that take place in our factories like leather selection, die-making, cutting, lasting and more. Within those operations approximately 80 different skilled pairs of hands are carefully constructing and inspecting each shoe to make sure the SAS shoes you choose are the best made pair of footwear in your closet.
